Titles

FC: Field Champion: A retriever who has won 10 points, including a first place in an All-Breed Retriever Trial, in Open or Limited stakes at AKC Licensed Retriever Trials.

AFC:
Amateur Field Champion: A retriever who has won 15 points, including a first place at an All-Breed Retriever Trial, in Open or Limited stakes when handled by an amateur, or in Amateur stakes at AKC Licensed Retriever Trials.

CH:
Champion: This is a title given a dog who has won a Championship on the bench at an AKC Licensed Dog Show.

Dual CH:
Dual Champion: A retriever who has won both a Bench Championship and a Field Championship (not Amateur).

NFC:
National Field Champion: The title given to the winner of the National (Open) Retriever Trial. The title carries the year of the win, as in “2000 NFC”.

NAFC:
National Amateur Field Champion: The title given to the winner of the National Amateur Retriever Trial. The title carries the year of the win, as in “2000 NAFC”.

JH:
Junior Hunter: A retriever who has passed 4 Junior Hunt Tests. Junior Hunters must successfully complete 2 land and 2 water retrieves at each test. AKC Title.

SH:
Senior Hunter: A retriever who has passed 5 Senior Hunt Tests (only 4 passes are required if the retriever has previously earned its Junior Hunter title). Senior Hunters must successfully complete double retrievers on both land and water and and a blind on both land and water. Diversion birds may be thrown and/or diversion shots may be used. AKC Title.

MH:
Master Hunter: A retriever who has passed 5 Master Hunt Tests (only 4 passes are required if the retriever has previously earned its Senior Hunter title). Master Hunters must successfully complete multiple retrievers on land, water and land/water combinations. Land and water blinds are also required. AKC Title.

SR:
Started Retriever: A retriever who has passed 4 Started Hunter Field Tests. Each test of 5 single bird marking retrieves, at least 2 of which shall be water retrieves at least 2 of which shall be land retrievers. The 5th retrieve may be either land or water. NAHRA Title.

WR:
Working Retriever: A retriever who has passed 4 Intermediate Field Tests. Each test consists of 5 tests which shall include the following: an upland hunting test; a blind retrieve on water; a double marked land retrieve; a double marked water retrieve; and a trailing test. NAHRA Title.

MHR:
Master Hunting Retriever: A retriever who has passed 5 Senior Field Tests. Each test consists of 6 tests which shall include the following: a triple marked water retrieve; a triple marked land retrieve; an upland hunting test (which shall not be considered a marked retrieve); trailing; a water blind retrieve and a land blind retrieve, at least one of which shall be incorporated within one of the required multiple marked retrieves. NAHRA Title.
